The Liturgical Year

The liturgical year is the Church’s calendar of worship. Through its seasons and celebrations, Catholics journey through the life of Jesus Christ — from His birth and public ministry, to His passion, resurrection, and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Rather than simply marking time, the liturgical year invites the faithful to grow in faith by entering more deeply into the mystery of Christ throughout the year.

The Sacred Triduum is the heart of the liturgical year. Beginning with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday and concluding with Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday, it commemorates the saving events of Christ’s suffering, death, and resurrection.
Easter

The Easter season celebrates Christ’s victory over sin and death. It is a joyful time that proclaims the Resurrection and culminates in Pentecost, when the Church celebrates the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles.
