Brief History
Holy Family Basilica Parochial School traces its roots back to 1925, when St. Austin’s Mission invited the Loreto Sisters to establish a school on the Basilica grounds. From 1925 to 1951, the school offered education from Standard One through Form Four. In 1951, the secondary section relocated to St. Teresa’s Eastleigh, leaving Holy Family Basilica Parochial School as a fully elementary institution.
The school was originally built by the Holy Ghost Fathers and managed by the Loreto Sisters. It operated privately until the 1990s, when it transitioned into a public school. In September 2009, His Eminence John Cardinal Njue initiated the process of repossessing the school. This effort was successful on 8 March 2010, when the institution regained its private status. A letter from the then Permanent Secretary of Education, Prof. Karega Mutahi, confirmed that the school had been registered as a private institution since 15 June 1967 under Registration Certificate No. 13137.
We extend gratitude to His Eminence John Cardinal Njue, Rev. Fr. Dr. Simon Kamomoe, the Parish Administrator at the time, and Sr. Joyce, the head teacher at the time, whose dedication ensured a smooth transition.
