At the Holy Family Minor Basilica, MYM thrives under the guidance and oversight of the Youth Board of the Parish, with 120 active and commissioned members serving at parish, deanery, and Archdiocese levels.
The Missionary Youth Movement (MYM) is a vibrant youth sub-group within the Archdiocese of Nairobi, catering to teenagers aged 13/14 to 18 years. It focuses on fostering faith, personal growth, and active participation in church and community life.
MYM is guided by its patron saints: St. Maria Goretti for girls and St. Kizito for boys, both shining examples of courage, purity, and faith lived at a young age.
To nurture teenagers into spiritually grounded and community-focused individuals through faith and service.
MYM empowers youth through activities aligned with the Archdiocese Youth Pillars: Faith, Fun, Formation, Family, and Follow-up, ensuring spiritual growth, social bonding, and leadership development.

St. Maria Goretti (Patron for Girls)
St. Maria Goretti was an Italian girl known for her purity, mercy, and unwavering trust in God. At just eleven years old, she faced a violent attack that led to her death, yet she chose to forgive her attacker even as she suffered. Because of her heroic faith and mercy, the Church honors her as a young martyr.
She reminds MYM girls that holiness is possible at every age and that courage, forgiveness, kindness, and a heart rooted in Christ can transform even the darkest moments into light.
St. Kizito (Patron for Boys)
St. Kizito, the youngest of the Uganda Martyrs, was only fourteen when he chose Christ over fear, standing firm in faith even unto death. His joyful spirit, loyalty, and bravery encourage MYM boys to walk with Jesus boldly, serve joyfully, and witness to the Gospel with integrity.
Mass and Liturgy Participation
Teens animate Mass through liturgical dance, prayers of the faithful, and proclamation of the Word at parish, deanery, and Archdiocese levels including the annual MYM Mass at St. Mary’s Msongari grounds.
Workshops and Counselling
Monthly meetings and holiday workshops address spiritual formation, emotional well-being, and personal development with guidance from clergy and trained animators.
Teens Camp
A yearly bonding experience featuring hiking, team building, swimming, bonfire circles, and shared cooking.
Bible Clubs
Saint-themed clubs where teens explore Scripture through discussions, storytelling, and creative activities.
Open to all teenagers aged 13/14 to 18 years within the Archdiocese of Nairobi.
• Requirements: Active participation in MYM activities and events.
• Schedule: Activities mainly run during school holidays to include boarding school students.
