The St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina Small Christian Community was formally constituted on 19 April 2025 during the Easter Vigil at Holy Family Minor Basilica, following a shared journey of faith that began in early 2024 among its members as adult catechumens.
Throughout their formation year, the group was shaped by catechism sessions, prayer gatherings, and moments such as the Way of the Cross pilgrimage to the Resurrection Garden in Karen. Guided closely by their catechists, especially Rev. Deacon Kevin Okeyo, the group grew into a strong spiritual family even before becoming an official SCC.
The community is under the spiritual guidance and support of Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Ndichu, who accompanies them as chaplain, strengthening their growth within the wider Basilica parish life.
To grow as a prayerful, compassionate, and hope-filled Christian community rooted in the spirituality of St. Padre Pio.
To deepen spiritual formation through prayer, Scripture, fellowship, and works of mercy while actively supporting the mission of the Basilica parish.
St. Padre Pio
St. Padre Pio inspires the heart of the community. Known for his profound prayer life, humility, love for the Eucharist, and compassion for the suffering, he reflects the very qualities the SCC seeks to live out.
During their formation journey, members found strength in his counsel, “Pray, hope, and don’t worry,” which anchored them through challenges. His deep trust in God, simplicity, and dedication to spiritual care made him a natural and unanimous choice as their patron.
Membership is open to all Catholics seeking spiritual growth and a supportive faith community.
