Meet the Clergy

The Most Rev. Philip A. Anyolo

The Most Rev. Philip A. Anyolo is the Metropolitan Archbishop of Nairobi. His Cathedral is the Holy Family Minor Basilica. Born on 18 May 1956 in Tongaren, Bungoma County, he is the second of ten children. He attended Kakamwe Primary School and later pursued his studies at Mother of Apostles Minor Seminary, St Augustine Major Seminary, and St Thomas Aquinas Seminary, Nairobi.

Ordained a deacon in 1982 and a priest in 1983 by the late Bishop John Njenga, Archbishop Anyolo served as the Bishop’s Secretary in the Diocese of Eldoret before proceeding to Austria, where he obtained a Ph.D. in Systematic Theology. Upon his return, he served as Chaplain and Lecturer in Eldoret.

In 1995, he was appointed the first Bishop of Kericho by Pope Saint John Paul II. He was later appointed Bishop of Homa Bay in 2003 and subsequently Archbishop of Kisumu in 2019. On 28 October 2021, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Nairobi, where he was solemnly installed on 20 November 2021, succeeding His Eminence John Cardinal Njue.

The Rt. Rev. David Kamau Ng’ang’a

The Rt. Rev. David Kamau Ng’ang’a was born in Ikinu, Kiambu County, the second of four sons. He began his education at Ikinu Primary School (1964–1970) and continued at Queen of Apostles Seminary (1971–1974). He pursued philosophical studies at St Augustine Seminary, Mabanga, and theological formation at St Thomas Aquinas Seminary, Nairobi.

He was ordained a priest on 10 January 1982 and served at Our Lady of Visitation Parish, Makadara. Over the years, he has held various pastoral and administrative responsibilities within the Archdiocese of Nairobi, including serving as Rector of St Augustine Senior Seminary.

On 22 December 1999, Pope Saint John Paul II appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Nairobi, and he was consecrated on 18 March 2000. Bishop Kamau has also served as Apostolic Administrator of both the Archdiocese of Nairobi and the Diocese of Nakuru.

Rev. Fr. Michael Ndichu serves as the Father-in-Charge and Administrator of the Holy Family Minor Basilica. He also holds the office of Executive Administrative Secretary of the Archdiocese of Nairobi.
